The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has developed a project together with the Akimat of Zhambyl Oblast, the Akimat of the city of Taraz, and the State Communal Enterprise “Zhambyl Su” to improve the wastewater treatment system in Taraz which has suffered from many years of under-investment.
The Project’s Priority Investment Programme (the “PIP”) is estimated at KZT 30.0 b (EUR 60.0 m), including (i) construction of new modern WWTP with capacity of up to 100,000 m3/day, (ii) recultivation of filtration beds, (iii) modernization of Samarkandskaya wastewater pumping station (“WWPS”), and (iv) external power supply of the new WWTP. The proposed wastewater treatment capacity shall be sufficient to serve 400,000 people and could be expanded in the future following an expansion of the sewerage network.
In August 2024, BDC Consulting, as part of a consortium together with Hydrophil GmbH (Austria), won the tender for the provision of technical support for the project in terms of procurement, project management and technical supervision.
